Revolution Weekend 2019: “I Belong.”

By November 20, 2018

I Belong.

Period.

It’s a little weird that a punctuation mark is such an important part of our theme, isn’t it? But it’s a really important part. By definition, a period is used to mark the end of a sentence that is intended to make a statement. It shows that the sentence has finished and is intended as a “full stop” — meaning that no other explanation or justification is needed.

I Belong. Period.

No ifs, ands, or buts. It’s a declaration, a claiming of our inheritance and our community, a claiming of the love and calling that God is freely offering us. It’s saying that no matter who you are, you belong. It’s saying that regardless of the mistakes you have made, you belong. It’s saying that your story isn’t over yet, that you have more life to live, that even though you don’t know where you’re going to end up or what you’ll be doing, you belong.

“Revolution Weekend 2019: I Belong.” will be January 19 – 21, 2019 at Glen Lake Camp! Revolution Weekend is an all-youth (7th – 12th grade) retreat we hold every January at Glen Lake Camp. It is our biggest event, one of our most beloved traditions, and a huge part of what makes us as FUMC Fort Worth Youth Ministries who we are! The weekend is full of old and new friends, meaningful worship, small group opportunities to go deeper, huge group games and activities, and time to just enjoy being a community. Our worship sessions will be led by guest speaker Rev. Regina Girten, a compelling preacher and youth leader and Methodist pastor from the Nashville area, and Bus Seven, our amazing perennial praise band.

Our whole weekend will be spent affirming that we belong to God, that we belong to this community, and that this community belongs to the world. We will be calling all of our teenagers and adults to live into their identity in Christ, believe that they truly are accepted by the community, and recognize that their call, and this community, don’t exist for their own sake, but for the sake of a world in need. Our hope is that teenagers experience the Revolution Weekend as a time of deep belonging, in whatever way they need it most, and that we can build that culture and expectation of belonging to carry us back into our whole life as a community together.

Revolution Weekend is a truly definitional moment in the life of faith for many of our youth, and we would love to have every single one of your teenagers come join us. Registration fees are in tiers by sign-up date, so the earlier you sign up, the better! Also, we never want money to be the reason a youth doesn’t go to an event. We have scholarship money available and waiting for anyone who needs it. Email Kat (kbair@myfumc.org) for more information on scholarships.
